El Tanbura @ 25 january revolutionWe are at the beginning of a new day in the history of Egypt in which every Egyptian can now claim justice, respect, not on the bases of wealth or power, but on their membership in the human community. This new day offers unprecedented opportunities for free expression, innovation and experimentation and the role of creative expression as a model for social change can now be realized. In 2000, Zakaria Ibrahim established El Mastaba Center for Egyptian Folk Music. The Center builds on his own efforts of several decades to rescue the heritage of Egyptian folk music, bringing it back to its previous glory and recapturing the major role it had always played in the daily life of Egyptians. The Center also works to raise the status of the traditional musician whose music and creativity have been marginalized and compromised by state and tourism agendas. Historically, Egyptian folk music came from the people and reflected the every-day life of the Egyptians. It shared with those people their joy and pain, their victories and defeats and was always a mirror of all the major happenings in Egypt. Today El Mastaba follows this same road as it works on renewing the national memory and emphasizing the idea of belonging and working to recapture the roots of the Egyptian character, all of which come to life through the folk music. For these reasons, El Mastaba played an active role in the Egyptian Revolution, bringing the groups under its umbrella to Tahrir Square to share their music ...more info

US Intervention: Pentagon sends warships to EgyptEgyptian opposition groups have called on embattled President Hosni Mubarak to resign immediately, saying the government should meet protesters' demands. The demand follows negotiations between the opponents of Mubarak's regime and Vice President Omar Suleiman to resolve the current standoff in the North African country. A representative of the Muslim Brotherhood -- Egypt's main opposition group -- told Press TV that it is not negotiating with the Mubarak regime, but merely conveying the opposition's ultimatums to the embattled president. Millions of Egyptians took to the streets on Sunday to honor hundreds of protesters killed during the anti-government rallies of the past 13 days. According to the United Nations, at least 300 people have so far been killed and thousands more injured during nationwide protests in crisis-hit Egypt. New revolution? Egyptians return to Tahrir Square to protest military 'dictatorship'Egypt protesters return to Tahrir Square to protest military 'dictatorship' CAIRO ? Over 50000 Egyptian protesters flocked to Cairo's Tahrir Square Friday to pressure the military government to transfer power to elected civilian rule, after the cabinet tried to enshrine the army's role in a constitutional proposal. The protesters, mostly bearded men and veiled women, sang religious chants before Friday prayers, while others handed out flyers demanding the withdrawal of the constitutional proposal and presidential elections be held no later than April 2012. "Does the government want to humiliate the people? The people revolted against Mubarak and they will revolt against the constitution they want to impose on us," a member of an orthodox Islamic Salafi group cried out over loud speakers, to the cheers of thousands of protesters. The mass rally recalled the demonstrations in Tahrir Square during the 18-day bloody uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak on February 18. Anderson Cooper Exposes More Of The Brutal Egyptian Dictatorship's Lies & PropagandaTake a look at Liberation Square today. Now, if the Egyptian government is telling the truth, those people in that square who you see, if the Egyptian government is telling the truth, those people are foreigners, they're agitators, they're criminals, they're paid, people paid to be there. But that is not what you see with your own eyes. That is not what I saw standing in that square. They are people tired of corruption, tired of dictatorship, tired of secret police coming in the night, tired of torture and terror, and tired of being silent. They are people who are no longer afraid. Their fear has been defeated. That is what they tell you. And for them, there is no turning back. Today in fact, they branched out from that square, staging sit- ins, not just in the square, but at the gates of Parliament and outside the Ministry of Health. There are reports of workers going on strike at post offices, textile mills, even at "Al-Ahram," the government's main newspaper, reports of open revolt there, a sign perhaps that at least a portion of the government propaganda machine may be cracking. That government newspaper today ran a front-page story condemning, that's right, condemning recent attacks by pro-Mubarak thugs. But the lies from the regime continue. Today, Egypt's foreign minister said the state of emergency cannot be lifted because they have 17000 prisoners loose in the streets, and many police stations have been destroyed. And it sounds almost plausible at first, but then ...more info
A Message of Truth to Egypt's Government (English Translation)The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever of you sees an evil deed should change it with his hand [by acting], or if he cannot do that, then with his tongue [by speaking out], or if he cannot do? that, then with his heart - and that is the weakest of faith." (Sahih Muslim) Brave, young man speaks out against Egyptian police after Viva Palestina convoy was attacked and many members of the convoy were arrested and seriously wounded. May Allah smile upon this brother and bless him and his family with the best of this life and in the akhira. Ameen, Ameen, Ameen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ma'an News Agency: Leader of the Viva Palestinan convoy and British MP George Galloway was deported from Egyptian soil moments after he set foot on it, crossing the border at Rafah from Gaza, organizers of the convoy said. A statement from the group said Galloway and a colleague "were forcibly pushed into a van, refused exit and told that they were leaving the country," as they entered Egypt. Egyptian security sources confirmed the decision to deport Galloway, saying officials had decided to bar the British MP from entering Egypt in the future and added the country would "also put all the convoy members on the black list after they leave." Officials were upset over the protests launched by the convoy, which spurred riots at the Rafah border, which lead to the death of an Egyptian police officer. Tensions were high in Egypt even before Viva Palestina landed in the country. The convoy ...more info
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak refuses to step downtimesofearth.com Cairo - Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak said in a national address Thursday evening that he will not step down until a new president is selected in elections scheduled for September. He added that some powers are being transferred to Egypt's vice president. Saying a peaceful transfer of power is underway, Mr. Mubarak refused to give in to demands of tens of thousands of anti-government protesters who took to the streets for a 17th straight day to demand his immediate resignation. Mr. Mubarak said he was speaking as a "father to his children." He said he would lift the hated emergency law when the security situation permits. Demonstrators in Cairo's main Tahrir Square jeered and chanted "he must leave" during the speech. They also waved their shoes up in the air, a symbol of disrespect in the Arab world. They had earlier danced in expectation that Mubarak would resign. It was the second time in two weeks that Mubarak told the nation he will stay in office until September. After the president's speech, Vice President Omar Suleiman called on Egyptian youth to "go back home" and "go back to work." He said the president handed down powers to him to restore peace and security and restore the normal way of life in Egypt. His speech came on state television shortly after 10:45 pm in Egypt. Earlier in the day, Egyptian military officials and members of the ruling party said Mr. Mubarak will "meet protesters' demands." Egyptians have been calling for the ouster of ...more info

Photojournalist Compares Cairo and Tel Aviv RevolutionistsFor more news visit ? english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ? http Follow us on Facebook ? me.lt During her visit to Cairo's Tahrir Square, an Israeli journalist took photos of Egyptian revolutionists. Upon her return to Israel she learned of the "tent camps struggle" taking place in Tel Aviv. Her photo exhibition displays a journalist's impression of the two closely related phenomena. Many try to find the commonalities and differences between the two events that took place almost simultaneously in Cairo and Tel Aviv. The journalist Yaira Yasmin simply took photos of them both and presented her impression of the events at her exhibition now on display in Tel Aviv. [Yaira Yasmin, Israeli Journalist]: "There are many young people who look the same and are very excited and very similar in their enthusiasm to create a better world. I was impressed by the spirit and purity of the people who do what they believe to be true." The exhibition is unique. Throughout it all are faces of people from Tel Aviv and Cairo, a jumble-like puzzle that creates a whole picture. So is the revolution in Egypt and the protest in Israel similar? Not in all respects, but there is a similarity between them, despite variations in participants' character and the difference between the countries's regimes - a totalitarian regime in Egypt and a democratic regime in Israel. [Dr. Mira Tzoref, an expert in Egypt at the Tel Aviv University]: "The youth of Tahrir and the youth of Rothschild Boulevard ...more info

Citizens speak out - 11 Jul 2011Citizens speak out. People from all walks of life continue to demand basic rights for themselves and their families as they gather in countries such as Âu L?c (Vietnam), Bahrain, Egypt, Libya, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. ÂU L?C - Demonstrators in front of the Chinese Embassy on Saturday, July 9 were forcibly dispersed by police, with 10 who were arrested, including several journalists. This was the first time in five weeks that the rallies, which were being held in protest of China's territorial claim to certain areas in the South China Sea, were disturbed by security personnel. With diplomatic resolution having already been agreed between the two countries, long-time analysts such as Australia-based Carl Thayer stated that the government's recent official accord could explain its efforts to quell internal dissension. EGYPT - Responding to protests that have escalated over the past two weeks, Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Saturday stated that all police officers accused of killing protesters would be suspended, and that a committee was being established to ensure speedier prosecution of former government members. Activists, however, remained skeptical, saying that the prime minister's declarations were vague. They continued to maintain a presence in Cairo's Tahrir Square, saying they would stay until the original demands of the revolution have been met. These include ending the military trials of civilians, requiring police accountability for murder and torture ...more info
