Adrianus Eversen & Camille Saint-Saëns - Piano Concerto no.2 in G minor III. Presto- Music : Piano Concerto no.2 in G minor III. Presto by : Camille Saint-Saëns ( 1835 - 1921) - @ en.wikipedia.org - Paintings by : Adrianus Eversen (1818 - 1897) Adrianus was born in Amsterdam on 13th January, 1818. He studied painting under Cornelis de Kruyff and became one of Holland's most accomplished painters of town views. His works are reminiscent of the earlier 17th and 18th century Dutch masters Jan van der Heyden (1637-1712) and Isaac Ouwater (1750-1793). He studied with his contemporary, Cornelis Springer, who was the acknowledged master of the townscape of this period and he competed for patrons with him throughout his life. Eversen lived and worked in Amsterdam, exhibiting there between 1840 and 1885. He also exhibited in ( Den Haag and Leeuwarden ) before moving to Rotterdam in 1889. Eversen was highly regarded during his lifetime and he sold many paintings in Belgium and Great Britain as well as in Holland. The English collector John Sheep shanks, whose collection was left to the Victoria and Albert Museum, bought his works. Eversen was a member of the elite association of artists known as the Arte and Amicitiae. His works are detailed topographical paintings which are interesting from both an artistic and historical point of view. Thomas Tellefsen - Grande Etude op 25From the recording sessions of "Thomas Tellefsen Complete Piano Music" (2L-080-PABD) performed by Jørgen Larsen. To be released March 2012 on Pure Audio Blu-ray and as FLAC HiRes audio files in both stereo and 5.1 surround. Produced in DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition, 352kHz/24bit) by multi-GRAMMY-nominated Lindberg Lyd AS. More information about this music: www.2L.no The story of Thomas Dyke Acland Tellefsen (1823-1874) has a special place in the history of 19th century Norwegian music. In his own lifetime he earned an international reputation as a composer, piano virtuoso and teacher, enjoying a close relationship to Chopin both as a pupil and a friend. The connection to Chopin is reflected in several ways in Tellefsen's music, both in terms of choice of style and genre and by the fact that the majority of his works are for solo piano. Jørgen Larsen was born in 1958 and after winning the Youth Piano Master competition in 1973 he made his debut in Trondheim in 1975. After studying under Eva Knardahl he had his debut concert in Oslo's University Hall in 1979 before being appointed accompanist at what was then Trøndelag Music Conservatory, now Institute of Music, NTNU, where he still teaches. Jørgen Larsen is a member of several chamber music ensembles, as well as being orchestral pianist with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.more info

Schubert Moment Musical A flat Op 94 No 2 Sauer Rec 1941 .wmvWhen one thinks of the pupils of Liszt, those that usually come to mind first are Rosenthal, Sauer and Friedheim. These three legendary pianists, along with Siloti, Reisenauer, Stavenhagen, Liebling and others were all members of Liszts master classes of 1884-85. The famous group photo showing Liszt with many of these pupils was taken on Liszts 73rd birthday on October 22, 1884. Emil von Sauer (1862- 1942) first studied with Nicholas Rubinstein, (the brother of Anton) Sauer later wrote that My most important teacher was Nicholas Rubinstein, without a doubt. Even so, Sauer came to Liszt in 1884 when he was already a finished artist and studied with him for two summers. Sauer was not pleased with the number of untalented pupils Liszt admitted to his master classes. Sauer wrote that these students simply did not belong there and what was worse, they often hindered the advancement of those who were really gifted. The race of idlers consisted of two groups: young woman who instead of smooth scales brought pretty faces and young men who employed the most refined art of flattery in order to endear themselves to the old master. It was during one of the after noon gatherings that Sauer heard Liszt play. Liszt, writes Sauer, was good-humored enough to sit down at the piano and play one of his own Consolations, the Chopin Nocturne in B flat Minor and Webers Perpetuum Mobile for us. Notwithstanding my best will to the contrary, I could not but find what he gave us entirely too slight ...more info

Forgotten Artist: The Life and Work of Cliff Bruner & His Texas WanderersThe Life and Work of Cliff Bruner: Cliff Bruner & His Texas Wanderers Cliff Bruner was a pioneer of Western swing, becoming one of the most influential musicians in the history of Texas country music during his lifetime. Bruner forged his early music career in the Texas Golden Triangle (Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange). Bruner went from working alongside western swing pioneer Milton Brown to forming his own band, The Texas Wanderers, a western swing outfit with a typical mix of blues, pop and jazz in their sound. Key members like Bob Dunn and Moon Mullican helped the group rule the dance-band scene in Houston during the classic era of Western swing. Clifton Bruner, a western swing fiddler and bandleader, was born in Texas City, Texas, USA on April 25, 1915. While still in school, Bruner played at local dances and eventually toured with Doc Scott's medicine show. In 1934, Bruner joined the ground-breaking western swing band, Milton Brown & His Musical Brownies. Western swing is dance music, often with an up-tempo beat; which attracted huge crowds to dance halls and clubs in Texas, Oklahoma and California during the classic era (1937 ~ 1945). Brown was the first Texas bandleader to use twin fiddles. Milton paired Bruner with Cecil Brower and this duo became the trademark sound of Brown's music. Cliff recorded forty-eight sides with the Brownies on the Decca label (1936). The band's promising future ended with Brown's untimely death in 1936. After Brown's death, Bruner ...more info

Celtic Woman & PS22 Chorus "YOU RAISE ME UP" at Radio City Music Hallps22chorus.blogspot.com http twitter.com celticwoman.com Last night was an absolutely incredible experience for the PS22 Chorus of 2010, performing with Irish music sensation Celtic Woman at their February 27th 2010 performance at Radio City Music Hall! Chloe gave the kids such a beautiful introduction which led into this magnificent performance of "You Raise Me Up" originally made famous by Josh Groban, who recently discovered the PS22 Chorus himself! (He linked to our cover of Empire State of Mind on his blog just last week!) It was truly an epic rendition of a great song, and one of the most beautiful music-making experiences the PS22 Chorus has ever been a part of. Thanks to Celtic Woman for giving these kids the thrill of a lifetime, and for being so down to earth and embracing this our kids and this entire experience wholeheartedly. The kids felt your genuine apprecation, and we have all been duly touched by it. In the next video to be posted you will hear some of the kids reactions to the experience on the bus ride home -- Celtic Woman definitely created 65 new devoted 10 year old fans this past week! And as wonderful as this video is, stay tuned for perhaps an even more poignant acoustic version of "You Raise Me Up" from our rehearsal on Thurday!more info

Moszkowski Transcription of the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5, Mvt. 2.- Adagio un poco mossoStudent practice recording. Apologies for the unplanned 'creative non chord tone' as I will not so affectionately call that big F NATURAL that should have been F sharp in the middle there. I hate recording, it's so nerve wracking, more so than playing for folks live. Oh well. I love this little solo, I hope you enjoy it, thanks for watching. Background info below.... As is true of many of the composer's works with nicknames?eg the "Moonlight" Sonata, the "Spring" Sonata?the "Emperor" moniker attached to Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat major, Op. 73 (1809) is not the composer's own. Still, there is hardly an adjective that could more aptly evoke the work's impressive scale and majesty. Despite its considerable technical demands, the "Emperor" Concerto handily transcends the typical role of the concerto as a mere virtuoso vehicle. Indeed, it is virtually symphonic in conception; its E flat major key (the same as that of the "Eroica" Symphony), expansive form, and sometimes martial, always grand, character grant the concerto a place among the defining works in the composer's heroic vein. The first performance of the Concerto was likely that given by Friedrich Schneider in Leipzig on November 28, 1811. The Concerto No. 5 is Beethoven's final essay in the concerto genre. He may have lost interest in concertante works at least in part because of his advancing deafness, which brought an end to his own career as a pianist. Tellingly, he himself never publicly played ...more info
