The Seekers - The Carnival Is Over.(1968)From their farewell concert at the BBC in London July 7 1968."The carnival is over"Not until 1993 did they get together again with Judith as a lead singer. They then more or less performed concerts together until 2004.But the years are moving on for all of us and they have retired for good now as a group after having their last tour summer of 2004.Their last ever concert was in Hong Kong October 8th 2004.Keith Potger, Judith Durham and Athol Guy still perform in Australia as solo artists. But as they have said themselves:"Never say never"they are to tour in May 2011 with Andre Rieu in Australia. The lyrics for "The Carnival is over" was written by Tom Springfield and the melody is based on a old Russian folk song. Judith had to put up a real fight to get this song recorded as the boys rather would record another song called "Hummingbird" instead. But she got her will and it was recorded first time in 1965.At it's peak this single record was selling 90000 copies a day in the UK.more info

NOLA Rising - Mardi Gras 2006HAPPY MARDI GRAS 2011, New Orleans ("NOLA") and rest of the world!! "NOLA RISING: Mardi Gras 2006" is a film about the first Mardi Gras after Hurricane Katrina, just some 5 months afterwards! And here it is, presented in time for the 5-Year anniversary of that Mardi Gras :-)) FLASHBACK (2005-2006): In the immediate months right after the hurricanes, much of the national media was reporting and commenting that NOLA was too devastated for people to stick around or return, and to rebuild - "certainly there'd be hardly any kind of Mardi Gras 2006" - THEY were saying. I couldn't believe that. I was familiar enough with the NOLA vibe and environment to think that those who had made it back into NOLA (or had never left) were definitely going to come out and celebrate life - joyfully - in spite of the disaster and the governments' betrayal of them - no matter what the media was telling the rest of the world, with or without outsider/tourist support. My thoughts were "this might be the best Mardi Gras ever!" So - I grabbed my 10-year old video camera (on it's last legs at the time), and headed out there to see for myself, and to time capsule a bit of history. Sure enough, I heard plenty of people in NOLA agree with me - Best Mardi Gras ever. I hope you enjoy this portrait of a great city and it's amazing people, as much as I enjoyed getting to see it. SOUND CHECK: Please tell me what areas are hard to hear what people say, and I'll add subtitles/captions - because it's all ...more info

Carnival in Brazil: Salgueiro (Narrated in English) Part 1 of 2Samba School: Salgueiro - February, 2005. Part 1 of 2. The Grand Champion of the 2009 Parade. It is a truly elitist school that draws in celebrities on name alone. It was, originally among the first schools to show-case the achievements of the Afro-Brazilians, in stark contrast to its current middle-class fan club. Salgueiro became really famous in the 1960s for its outstanding samba dance performers. It has a very popular samba hall. Every year, it uses its symbol, the fire, in its parade. The Rio Samba Parade is the review of a fierce competition between the Rio samba schools. The judges and spectators watch the principal parades in the Sambodromo which was especially built for this event. The Samba Parade is something everybody should experience at least once in their life. The event is broadcast live to several countries. The Rio Samba Parade is very distinctive from all other street parades held at some other places in the world. It is not a street happening where people move chaotically about as they like, but more of a highly orchestrated show of vast proportions. Every parader has a specific role and place according to his costume in a particular wing, of a particular section of the samba school he/she is parading in support of. Each year each school chooses a different theme for the Samba Parade. It can be a celebration of a particular period, or, of famous figures of Brazilian history. It may highlight a special event or speak of anything that might move the ...more info

The Krewe of Muses Thrill New Orleans - Mardi Gras 2009 New Orleans, LA (MardiGras Mardi Gra)ACityOfFriends.com. The Krewe of Muses is one of the most anticipated parades of Mardi Gras season in New Orleans. What makes the Krewe of Muses so popular? Is it the biting humor expressed in their parade floats? Or perhaps it's the widest variety of unique, creative throws that the Krewe of Muses showers upon the parade onlookers. Maybe it's the shoes. More than likely, it's the grand spectacle that occurs when all of these things combine with lights and music and energy. Whatever the reason, the Krewe of Muses parade is one Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans that should not be missed. Muses is certainly an example of the real "Girls Gone Wild" in New Orleans. Produced by Claire Jordan, A City Of Friends.more info
